ONI is the Navy's preeminent Center of Excellence for operational and strategic analysis of events associated with the maritime domain. The center provides deep penetrating and predictive term intelligence to enable operational commanders and national policy makers to employ the right forces, in the right place, at the right time.
The incumbent will serve as an all-source intelligence analyst in the Piracy and Maritime Crime Team performing research and writing assessments about global piracy and maritime crime operations, tactics, procedures, and networks afloat and ashore. Analysts will become knowledgeable about Chinese, Russian, and Iranian naval counterpiracy operations. We disseminate actionable intelligence and warnings regarding pirate activity to national level leaders, the fleet, military commands, coalition partners, and the maritime industry worldwide.
We work with the intelligence community, COCOMs, the Fleet, foreign partners, and maritime industry to track pirate activity, analyze evolving tactics, conduct network analysis, and identify developing trends. We provide intelligence support and expertise to rescue operations, naval counter-piracy operations, and multinational exercises.
Analysts will become very knowledgeable on the maritime industry and strategic trade. They will gain unique insights into how piracy and maritime crime affects the shipping industry and regional economies through engagements with maritime industry and interagency working groups.
Analysts will have the opportunity to work closely with foreign partners through intelligence exchanges and joint production initiatives.
Specific duties include: Understand and analyze commercial maritime data; identify anomalous behavior; evaluate raw intelligence from field resources; utilize commercial industry resources Perform research, contribute to predictive analysis and write intelligence assessments; Support U.S. Navy operations, national-level policymakers, and Intelligence Community in understanding the effects of maritime crime and piracy on commercial maritime industry, its dependencies, and impacts to national security Collaborate with analysts across various disciplines, centers and agencies; Advise and brief leadership on emerging piracy issues; Share information with interagency and foreign partners on piracy issues; Identify information gaps and prepare collection requirements to meet current and anticipated intelligence needs.

Work is almost exclusively in an office environment on the ONI compound; however, short deadlines and suspense may require working under stressful environments. Work is performed in an adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated office. Short duration TDYs may be required.
