A system of records is a group of any records under the control of any agency from which information is retrieved by the name of the individual or by some identifying number, symbol, or other identifier assigned to the individual. The Privacy Act requires each agency to publish systems of records notices (SORNs) in the Federal Register to identify the purpose for which personally identifiable information (PII) is collected, from whom and what type of PII is collected, how the PII is shared externally, and how to access and correct any PII maintained by the ODNI.
