Press Releases 2021

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence today submitted to Congress a preliminary report regarding Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP) that relays the progress the Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force has made in understanding UAP. The release of this report is in response to a requirement in the Intelligence Authorization Act of 2021.

The unclassified version of the report will be posted on dni.gov later today.

Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines today issued the following statement:

The Director of National Intelligence (DNI) is disclosing the aggregate amount of $62.3 billion in requested appropriations for the Fiscal Year 2022 National Intelligence Program (NIP).

The National Intelligence University (NIU) officially transitioned from the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) to the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) on June 20, 2021. This shift marks an important milestone that honors NIU’s 59-year legacy stewarded by DIA and positions it as the Intelligence Community’s (IC) university.

Assistant Director of National Intelligence for Strategic Communications Amanda Schoch today issued the following statement on COVID-19 Origins:

“The U.S. Intelligence Community does not know exactly where, when, or how the COVID-19 virus was transmitted initially but has coalesced around two likely scenarios: either it emerged naturally from human contact with infected animals or it was a laboratory accident. While two elements of the IC lean toward the former scenario and one leans more toward the latter -- each with low or moderate confidence -- the majority of elements within the IC do not believe there is sufficient information to assess one to be more likely than the other. The IC continues to examine all available evidence, consider different perspectives, and aggressively collect and analyze new information to identify the virus's origins.”
